Women enrolled in UG and PG programmes do not currently enjoy such benefits.
In India, women pursuing UG and PG programmes may soon be entitled to 240 days of maternity leave on the basis of the UGC regulations, 2016. In addition to the above, all higher education institutions are advised to frame appropriate norms with regards of providing maternity leave to the women enrolled in their respective institutions.
This is more beneficial for female students living in rural areas or areas where cases of early marriages are extensive because the age of marriage in urban areas has considerably increased over the years. – Said Seema Das, a member of the University’s executive council and professor of political science at Hindu college.
