APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has resolved to make a phenomenal increase in the number of PhD fellowships from next year admission.
The university association has decided to increase the number of fellowships to 100 from the current 18. The fellowship carries a monthly research grant of Rs 25000 and an annual contingency of Rs 20,000 for three years.
The grant will encourage more students to start research under the University. The fellowship will be a benefit for students who cannot pursue research because of financial difficulties- said Vice-chancellor MS Rajasree.
Last year more than 1500 students have applied for PhD of which 1200 appeared for examinations. So far, the university has given fellowships to 89 researchers. A total of 994 research students are pursuing their studies in 40 research centers covering across Kerala.
