Based on the research by university of Cape Town PhD candidate Vuyelwa Mehlomakulu, there is a necessity for the development of new, modern, and effectual involvement to decrease external HIV-related stigma in group of people.
Globally, exterior HIV- associated stigma is the most important threat to all HIV prevention, care, diagnosis, treatment. This includes recent launching of Universal test and treat approach in South Africa and the 90-90-90 targets set by the joint UN program on HIV for the worldwide response by 2020.
There have not been many attempts taken for reducing HIV-related stigma in South Africa. External HIV-related stigma still subsists in spite of previous success in immense antiretroviral therapy rollout, AIDS counseling and testing campaigns, and most lately test-and treat programmes that were arguably thought to have a similar consequence on the decrease of HIV-related stigma.
