The department of defence and strategic studies, Punjabi University, Punjabi recently signed an MoU with Army war college, Mhow (MP) to provide PG diploma in Security and strategy. The newly launched course will cater to defence officers. It is intended to infuse theoretical understanding on theories of security and strategic studies and to understand the regional and international security environment. It is further intended to form area of specialization and to advance the issue related understanding on the subject, said Umrao singh, Patiala.
Other than this, the University provides MA, and PhD for students. MA is a two-year degree course that is aimed to inculcate in-depth understanding amongst students. Singh also said that there are several important things to be taught during curriculum, likely war, national security, strategic thought, defence related issues, international law, history of warfare, military psychology, military sociology, impact of science and technology, peace studies and conflict resolution, India’s security problem and more.
Sigh said, “Teaching and research, armed forces, central armed police forces, civil services, and defence journalism are some of the noticeable subject fields where candidates could discover new job chances after completing their courses”
Graduate in any stream are applicable to apply for an admission for the two-year MA course. For PG program candidates will be shortlisted based on the merit in qualifying class.
Very few universities provide defence and strategic studies and that too at PG level. And these Universities include, Punjabi University, Kurukshetra university, Savithribai pule Pune University, and Maharshi dayanand university, university of Allahabad, University of Madras, Jannayak chandrashekhar University Ballia.
